How does reducer housing & cover achieve sealing function?

Publish Time: 2024-12-12
The sealing function of reducer housing & cover is crucial to ensure the effective storage of lubricating oil inside the reducer, prevent leakage and block the entry of external impurities. This goal is achieved through sophisticated design in many aspects.

First of all, in terms of structural design, the joint surface of the housing and the cover is precisely processed to ensure that its flatness and surface roughness meet the sealing requirements. A sealing groove is usually designed between the two, and the shape, depth and width of the sealing groove are strictly calculated and optimized. Generally speaking, the sealing groove is mostly rectangular or trapezoidal, and its size perfectly matches the selected seal, so that the seal can be stably embedded in it. After the housing and the cover are assembled, the seal is moderately compressed to fill the small gap between the joint surfaces and form a reliable sealing defense line.

The selection of seals is also a key link. Common ones include rubber sealing rings and sealing pads. Rubber sealing rings have good elasticity and resilience, and can adapt to the slight deformation of the housing and the cover under different working conditions (such as temperature changes, vibrations, etc.), and always maintain the sealing effect. Its material depends on the working environment of the reducer. For example, in high temperature environment, high temperature resistant fluororubber material will be selected; in occasions with high oil resistance requirements, nitrile rubber will be used. The sealing gasket is usually made of materials such as paper, cork or rubber asbestos board, with a certain thickness and compressibility, which can evenly disperse the pressure over a large area, effectively make up for the possible unevenness of the joint surface, and enhance the sealing performance.

During the installation process, strict operating specifications ensure the realization of the sealing function. The assembler will carefully clean the joint surface between the housing and the cover and the seal to prevent impurities from affecting the sealing effect. After the seal is correctly placed in the sealing groove, tighten the bolts connecting the housing and the cover according to the specified torque. The appropriate bolt torque can make the seal obtain uniform and appropriate compression, which not only ensures reliable sealing, but also does not damage the seal or cause deformation of the housing due to excessive compression.

In addition, for some special parts, such as the penetration between the shaft and the housing, oil seals are used for sealing. The oil seal is composed of a rubber lip and a metal frame. The rubber lip fits tightly on the shaft and forms a dynamic seal as the shaft rotates, effectively preventing the lubricating oil from leaking outward along the shaft and blocking foreign dust and other impurities from entering the reducer. Through these comprehensive designs and measures, reducer housing & cover has built a complete sealing system to ensure the stable and efficient operation of the reducer.
